We're heading back to Chapter 12 of the Chamber of Secrets "The Polyjuice Potion" for this week's recipe:
"Hagrid booming more and more loudly with every goblet of eggnog"
Time for another very merry Christmas recipe from Hogwarts!
The Christmas festivities continue, and Hagrid is getting very merry so for this week's recipe I wanted to serve up a Wizarding World twist on the traditional Christmas drink - eggnog!
Eggnog is a world famous Christmas drink that can be whipped up in a few simple steps. In this easy eggnog recipe I'll show you how to create your homemade eggnog base, spiked with a warming Firewhisky, and made extra velvety with freshly whipped egg whites before serving. I've also included some tips on pasteurising eggs for eggnog as an optional extra step.
If you've been looking for an easy eggnog recipe follow this simple step-by-step recipe to learn how to make homemade eggnog with a Harry Potter Firewhisky twist!
Harry Potter Eggnog Recipe Ingredients
(makes 4-6 servings)
For the Firewhisky eggnog recipe
50g golden caster sugar
50g light brown sugar
250ml double cream
200ml Firewhisky (from my Homemade Firewhisky recipe)
2-3 dashes Angostura bitters
nutmeg to taste
Easy Eggnog Recipe Method:
To begin you want to make your eggnog base. Separate the eggs yolks from the egg whites and store the whites in an airtight container for later.
Place the egg yolks into a bowl over simmering water, along with your two sugars and whisk for about 5 minutes until the mixture becomes light, pale and frothy.
Remove from the heat and slowly whisk in the milk, cream, bitters and firewhisky. Once the base is nice and smooth, and flavour with nutmeg to taste. (Wizard Tip! If you don't drink you can replace the firehwisky with a vanilla sugar syrup - just heat the sugar from this recipe with 100ml water and 1tsp vanilla until boiling. Allow to cool before using)
(Wizard Tip! If making ahead of time you can bottle and chill the base until you're ready to serve - the alcohol will help preserve it)
When you're ready to serve you can also pasteurise the egg whites by placing them in a bowl over simmering water and lightly whisking for 5 minutes. Once they're warm and frothy whisk the egg whites until they form stiff peaks.
Pour the eggnog base into a separate base and add in ⅓ of the egg whites. Stir through to loosen. Add in the second third and fold these through until evenly combined. Finish by folding in the final third.
Transfer the eggnog into serving glasses and sprinkle over some more nutmeg to garnish. Enjoy immediately.
And with that, our homemade eggnog recipe is complete - it's going to be a very merry Christmas indeed!
