This week we're moving onto Chapter Two of the Prisoner of Azkaban - "Aunt Marge's Big Mistake" for our next recipe:
"He helped himself to a piece of toast and then looked up at the newsreader on the television"
Time for an easy homemade bread recipe with a magical Harry Potter bread design!
We covered toast (and many variations of bread) in the Philosopher's Stone and the Chamber of Secrets so this year I thought we'd stretch ourselves and try something new - a hidden bread pattern design!
This homemade white bread recipe is incredibly easy to make which means you can spend more time bringing your bread design to life! I'll show you the quick way to create a hidden design inside your bread loaf - I've gone for a red lightning bolt but you can personalise the colour and shape however you like!

Harry Potter Surprise Inside Bread Recipe Ingredients
(makes 1 large loaf)
500g strong white bread flour
1 sachet (7g) dried yeast
300ml water (100ml boiling, 200ml cold)
1 tbsp olive oil
choice of food colouring gel
Homemade White Bread with Hidden Design Method:
To begin, make your easy white bread loaf recipe by placing the flour into bowl and making a well in the middle
Pour the salt on one side and yeast on the other before adding the olive oil into the middle
Make lukewarm water from 100ml boiling water and 200ml cold water. Mix together and pour into the well
Mix on a low speed, slowly increasing until the dough comes together. Knead for 5 minutes if using a stand mixer with dough hook, or 10 minutes if kneading by hand
Grease a bowl with olive oil, add the dough in and cover with cling film before leaving to rise for an hour.
Once the dough has doubled in size, knock back the air by kneading for 1 minute on a lightly floured surface.
Split out ⅓ of the dough and dye with the food colouring gel of your choice.
Split the remaining white dough into small balls and roll into thin sausages the length of your baking tin.
Roll out the red dough and use a stencil to cut out as many lightning bolts as you can. Re-knead, roll and cut the dough until you have enough lightning bolts to fit the length of your tin.
Lay a strip of white dough down and place the red bolts on top. Try to remove as much flour as possible to help it stick and work your way along. Use the remaining white strips to seal the lightning bolt in place. Flip over and cover the bottom and sides too.
Place into a greased tin and cover with cling film. Leave to rise for 30-45 minutes
Once the loaf has doubled again, bake in oven at 200c for 20 minutes. Turn down heat to 180c and bake for another 20 minutes.
Allow the loaf to cool in baking tin before removing. Once completely cool, slice to reveal your lightning bolt hidden inside the loaf!
No matter which shape or colour you choose this magical reveal is bound to put a smile on your face!
