Hogwarts House Salad Recipe with Shredded Lettuce | My Harry Potter Kitchen III (Recipe 35)

This week, we're serving up a health kick packed full of Hogwarts House magic!

This week we're moving onto Chapter Eight of the Prisoner of Azkaban "Flight of the Fat Lady" where we find our next recipe:

"after yet another hour of poking shredded lettuce down the Flobberworms slimy throats"

Sounds a little gross - but let's see what we can come up with!

Shredded Lettuce is quite a peculiar ingredient for us to conjure something up from. We turned cabbage into a cake in the Chamber of Secrets so this year I thought we'd stay healthy and use it as the main event in this Hogwarts "House" Salad!

This easy Hogwarts Hosue salad recipe is packed full of vegetables, vibrant colours and a whole host of vitamins! With a little prep, you can serve up this vegetarian masterpiece complete with four Hogwarts House-inspired dressings!

Hogwarts House Salad Recipe Ingredients

(makes 4-6 servings)

For the Hogwarts House Salad recipe:

  • 150g bulgar wheat

  • 300ml vegetable stock

  • salt and pepper

  • 2 iceberg gem lettuce

  • olive oil

  • 1 tsp garlic granules

  • juice of a lemon

  • approx 8-10 baby sweetcorns (halved)

  • approx 8-10 asparagus stalks

  • 1 large carrot

  • 1 red onion

  • approx 8-10 cherry tomatoes

  • 1 steamed beetroot

  • 50g feta cheese

For the Hogwarts House Salad dressings:

  • Gryffindor: 1 tbsp harissa paste, 2 tbsp mayonnaise, 1 tbsp water

  • Ravenclaw: 2 tbsp olive oil, 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar

  • Hufflepuff: 2 tbsp olive oil, ½ tbsp honey, 1 tsp wholegrain mustard

  • Slytherin: 2 tbsp olive oil, juice of half a lemon, salt

Pepper Imps Method:

  1. To begin, make your base by washing the bulgar wheat in cold water. Prepare the vegetable stock and then pour it into a pan along with the bulgar wheat. Bring to the boil, season with salt and pepper and then place a lid on top, allowing it to simmer for 15 minutes.

  2. Remove the lid and allow to finish cooking until all the water has evaporated. Leave to stand in the pan for 10 minutes.

  3. For the lettuce wedges, cut one of the iceberg lettuce into quarters and season with oil, salt, pepper, garlic granules and lemon juice.

  4. Heat a griddle pan on high and then cook the iceberg lettuce for a few minutes on each side until well seared. While the pan is still hot grill the baby sweetcorn and asparagus for a couple of minutes on each side.

  5. Prepare the rest of the vegetables. Cut the remaining iceberg lettuce in half and shred evenly. Slice the cherry tomatoes in half. Thinly slice the red onion. Cut the beetroot into circles and then shape into lightning bolts.

  6. To assemble the House Salad, place the bulgar wheat into the centre of the serving dish and sprinkle the shredded lettuce around the outside. Decorate with the remaining vegetables before sprinkling over the fresh feta.

  7. Serve the salad with the assorted Hogwarts House dressings by simply stirring each of the dressing ingredients together.
