Things are about to get fishy!

Last year we made a Salmon out of cake, so this year I think it's only fair to serve up something with actual salmon inside - and nothing says magic like Hogwarts House inspired flavours.


This crumb topped salmon recipe is an easy fish dinner idea packed full of flavour. I'll walk you through how to prepare and marinate salmon, before creating four crumb topping recipes for fish - each inspired by the Hogwarts Houses to bring our great flavours and vibrant colours!

Harry Potter Hogwarts Crumbed Salmon Recipe Ingredients

(makes 4 servings)

  • 4 salmon fillets

  • 2 tbsp olive oil

  • juice of 1 lemon

  • salt and pepper (to taste)

  • 1-2 tsp thyme (freshly chopped)

  • a small handful of flat-leaf parsley

For the Salmon crumb base

  • 250g breadcrumbs

  • salt and pepper (to taste)

  • 2 cloves garlic

  • zest of a lemon

For the Hogwarts house crumb flavourings

  • 1 tsp pesto

  • ½ tsp curry powder

  • 1 tbsp sun-dried tomatoes

  • 1 tbsp Kalamata olives

  • 4 tbsp melted butter

Homemade Crumb Topped Salmon Recipe Method:

  1. To begin you want to prepare your salmon marinade recipe by pouring the oil and lemon juice into a bowl. Season with salt and pepper. Finely chop the fresh thyme and parsley, add into the bowl and mix well.

  2. Prepare the salmon fillets by slicing and deboning them (if not already done) - you can also remove the skin at this point if you prefer. Wash in cold water before adding it into the marinade and coating generously. Cover and set aside for 30 minutes.

  3. To make the crumb top base, place the breadcrumbs into a blender (Wizard Tip! You can make these at home with the ends of just-stale bread). Flavour with salt, pepper, garlic and lemon zest and then blitz together.

  4. Separate the based into four bowls. For the Slytherin and Hufflepuff salmon flavours, add the pesto and curry powder into the breadcrumbs and stir through. Use melted butter to help bind the breadcrumbs together.

  5. Separately blend the Gryffindor and Ravenclaw breadcrumb flavours by blitzing them with sun-dried tomatoes and olives. Add melted butter as required to bind.

  6. Lightly grease a baking tin and lay the salmon fillets in. Cover with the flavoured breadcrumbs, compacting slightly on top. Bake the salmon fillets in the oven at 200c (400 F) for 10-15 minutes depending on how well done you like your salmon.

  7. Serve immediately with your favourite magical sides
