This week, we've got a magical Harry Potter sweet recipe!

Let's head back to the Dinner Party in Chapter Two of the Prisoner of Azkaban "Aunt Marge's Big Mistake" for our next recipe:

"Aunt Marge reached for her glass of wine"

Wine might take a little too long to make - but this fruit sweet recipe is close enough!

We haven't made it to Honeydukes yet but that's not going to stop us from conjuring up some magical Wizarding World candy!

This easy wine gum sweet recipe is a simple way to make the classic British sweets at home. Once you've created the jelly sweet base you can flavour it with your favourite fruity extracts, colour them, and shape them into magical creations!

If you've been looking for an easy jelly sweet recipe follow this simple step-by-step recipe to learn how to make homemade wine gums with Hogwarts House flavourings!

Harry Potter Homemade Wine Gums Ingredients

(makes 12 - 24 jelly sweets)

  • 18 gelatine leaves

  • 250g water

  • 250g granulated sugar

  • 1 tbsp glucose syrup

  • ¼ tsp citric acid

  • red, blue, green, yellow food colouring gel

  • (Optional) strawberry, prosecco, lemon, orange extract

Homemade Wine Gum Recipe Method:

  1. To begin soak the gelatine leaves in a bowl of cold water. Leave for 5 minutes until softened. (Wizard Tip! If you can't find leaves you can switch out for 20g of gelatine powder. Bloom this in 50ml of water and reduce the quantity of water in the syrup to 200ml)

  2. Prepare the sugar syrup for the homemade jelly sweets by heating the sugar, water and liquid glucose on high until it reaches the hardball stage (130c / 266 F). (Wizard Tip! Be careful not to over stir the mixture - otherwise your mixture will crystallise)

  3. Squeeze the excess water from the gelatine leaves and stir into sugar syrup, along with the citric acid, stirring until dissolved.

  4. Remove from the heat and separate into 4 bowls. Add in your chosen flavours and colours and stir until evenly combined.

  5. Pour the wine gum mixture into silicone moulds and chill in the fridge for at least 2 hours.

  6. Remove the wine gums from the silicone moulds. (Wizard Tip! For a firmer wine gum, transfer onto a wire rack and leave uncovered overnight (or up to 24 hours)

This Wizarding World candy is super easy to make and you can personalise it into a range of your favourite flavours and colours.
